Clay is an incredible gift we receive from the earth, and it has been used to create objects for thousands of years.  Its evolution epitomizes the phrase "form follows function" as many creators strive to blend the two ideas into one, even if the function is simply for viewing.  I feel privileged to be part of the cycle that keeps this tradition moving forward.

For me personally, clay has become my sketchbook, my painting canvas, my sculpting material, my science project, my therapy sessions, and my social life.  It has impacted my life as an educator and allowed me to become a student again, accepting the challenges of my teachers, and as I step back in to my teacher role, it has allowed me to challenge my students.  It keeps me a practitioner of my discipline.

The pieces in this show are a collection of valuable skills and techniques I have learned from many different artists who have mentored me in my journey through art.  The majority of work is soda fired stoneware with smaller samplings of raku, wood fired, and gas reduction fired ware.  My gratitude to those who have guided me cannot be adequately expressed, and it is my hope that my work depicts my growth and development and is a testament to the power and importance of inspirational teachers.
