Our designers and framers have years of experience in the methods used by museums to care for objects. Our clients know that a Gordy frame is designed and built to preserve the object inside as well as complement its beauty. We are knowledgeable in the history of design and can suggest framing styles that are appropriate for the age of the object and its country of origin.
At Gordy, we select the highest quality materials for mounting and framing works of art and family treasures.
Our frames are made of real wood or metal, never plastic or composite material. We offer the highest quality commercially produced frames and frame mouldings from companies like Roma, Larson Juhl, Nelson’s, Bella, Nurre Caxton, Designer, and Neilsen. We also offer a line of Gordy original frames using profiles designed by us and produced at local mills using locally sourced lumber. These are often built as “closed-corner” frames where the corner appears to be one continuous piece of wood. They can be gilded or hand-carved to a client’s specifications, when particular hardwoods are required, or a frame needs to be matched to something existing. For clients needing standard size frames we have readymade frames that are stylish, well-built, and economical.
Our mats are made of conservation quality materials that are acid free. Often the mats we use are 100% cotton and will not degrade over time. We use optical quality glass and acrylic that does not appear wavy or distorted and will not cast a dull greenish color over the object inside. We mount your object into the frame with either linen tape or acetate film. If our clients require museum quality mounts, we are skilled using handmade tissues and wheat starch mounts.
